Meta layoffs: Sara Schneider revealed that her maternity leave was cut short due to layoffs

After laying off 11,000 employees last year, Facebook’s parent company Meta is now cutting 10,000 new jobs. Many employees affected by the company’s second round of layoffs are now taking to LinkedIn to tell their stories. One such metal worker has revealed that her maternity leave was cut short due to layoffs after she had been with the company for three years.

Sara Schneider, who was part of the talent acquisition and recruiting team, shared how she went through major milestones during her time at the company, including moving three times, finding the love of her life, getting married, getting pregnant and having her. first baby.

In a LinkedIn post, she wrote: “Unfortunately my maternity leave was cut short at Meta due to brutal Meta layoffs. I had an amazing 3 years at a company with so many memories and worked with the best teams and amazing people. This layoff was not based on performance because so many top performers were let go. I am proud to spend time recruiting for the People team as well as the software development team.

Ms Schneider’s post also revealed that she had “suffered a near-fatal postpartum haemorrhage 8 hours after giving birth”.

“During my labor process, I suffered a near-fatal postpartum hemorrhage 8 hours after giving birth. I lost over 5 liters of blood with massive blood clots and blood pressure in the 50s. Even though it was incredibly traumatic, I know I was kept alive for a reason. It gives me perspective that I have purpose, and life’s hills and valleys are just that – temporary. I promised myself that if I survived, I wouldn’t sweat life so much and be grateful for everything around me,” she wrote.

Before this, another Meta employee was also dismissed during maternity leave. In a LinkedIn post, Andi Allen, who worked at Meta as a Senior Technical Recruiter, wrote: “I was part of today’s Meta layoffs on maternity leave.” He also asked, “Has Mark Zuckerberg taken a pay cut?” and stated that his recruitment team was “top notch” and said Meta’s “handling of the situation is appalling”.

In addition to the layoffs, Meta Platforms Inc. also plans to cut about 5,000 jobs, scrap lower-priority projects, and lay off middle management.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company is asking executives to become individual contributors and give them fewer than 10 direct reports to make the organization “even.” He added: “We don’t expect the number of staff to grow so quickly, it makes more sense to utilize the capacity and integrity layers of each supervisor as much as possible”.

According to Zuckerberg, the year 2023 is Metal’s “year of efficiency”, which the company has communicated to its employees in connection with performance evaluations.
