Paris Hilton presented her mother Kathy Hilton with a blue Chanel bag when she announced the arrival of her newborn son Phoenix Barron.
In late January, Paris, 40, announced that she and her businessman husband Carter Reum had welcomed a baby boy via surrogate.
The couple kept the birth a secret from both close relatives until Paris shared the news on Instagram.
Now, in a new Rolling Stone interview, Paris revealed that she gave Kathy a designer handbag and then handed her Phoenix for the first time.
“I thought if I give her the Chanel first, maybe she won’t be so upset that I didn’t tell her about this,” Paris admitted to the magazine.
The moment Kathy first met Phoenix was caught on reality TV cameras on the Peacock series Paris In Love.
Paris described the scene: “I was holding the baby on my shoulder over the blanket, and then I sat down.”
The hotel heiress admitted that Kathy was “like, ‘What’s that?’ keep him He is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen in my life. Oh, she’s so beautiful.” She just cried.
Recently, he explained why he and carter hid the baby’s birth even from their immediate family right before making the Instagram announcement.
“My whole life has been so public,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. ‘I’ve never had anything for myself. We decided we wanted to have this whole experience to ourselves.
She said of her son: “I want to protect him and be with him every second. You have this motherly instinct that kicks in that I’ve never had before.
While the surrogate was in labor, Paris was so determined to protect her privacy that she even disguised herself in a brunette wig and checked into the hospital under an alias.
His decision was particularly significant given how close he is to his family, particularly his sister Nicky Hilton Rothschild and their mother.
However, tensions flared between mother and daughter in November when Kathy got to slip on E! News that IVF had been the “battle” of Paris.
“I don’t know where he got it from,” Paris responded the next day in an interview with TMZ. “It was never a fight.”
When Paris announced the arrival of her first child, she simply said, “You are already loved in words,” in a photo of the baby’s hand holding Paris’s finger.
On a recent episode of her podcast, This Is Paris, she shared that Phoenix was “like over a week old” before she told Kathy and Nicky about her birth.
“When I introduced my mom to our son, it was amazing to see the look on his face, he was so surprised,” Paris said. “Just the look on his face, it was priceless.”
