Rachel Zegler opens up about the real reason she joined the DC Universe, and it’s pretty relatable.

When talking with The Hollywood Reporter at the address Shazam! Wrath of the Gods premiere on Tuesday west side story the actress said she stepped into the role of Anthea because she “needed work”. I’m so serious.”

“The reality is we’re in the middle of a pandemic and I wasn’t working and I couldn’t get a job for the life of me because west side story hadn’t appeared yet,” he confessed. “It was really difficult to book work for me.”

Directed by David F. Sandberg, the sequel follows Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and his fellow foster kids as they continue to navigate their teenage years with their adult superhero alter egos. Only this time, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, the Daughters of Atlas – Hespera (Helen Mirren), Kalypso (Lucy Liu), Anthea (Zegler), have come to earth in search of the magic that was stolen from them before. Shazam (Zachary Levi), Billy’s adult superhero persona, must work with his allies to save the world.

Zegler went on to explain how excited he was when he first found out about the role and eventually landed the role. “I loved the first movie and the fact that they even wanted me to come back to play and then read the camera and then everything in between, I’m so lucky to get this job,” he added. “I made some of my best friends in this job. I love this movie too, so I’m excited.”

Shazam! Wrath of the Gods hits theaters March 17.
